Alan Munde, long regarded as one of the world's foremost 5-string banjo players, has returned as a bluegrass band leader.

Joining Alan in The Alan Munde Gazette are some of the finest pickers and singers in the Southwest - Elliott Rogers, Bill Honker, Steve Smith, and Nate Lee.

The music they produce is just what you'd expect from this group of talented, creative, and experienced musicians - stellar instrumentation, a mixture of traditional and original material, and some of the best harmony singing you'll hear anywhere - all driven by air-tight rhythm and Alan's trademark banjo playing.

The Blue Canyon Boys

Winners of the 2008 Telluride Bluegrass festival band contest, the Blue Canyon Boys offer a unique style of Colorado Bluegrass steeped in tradition with enough excursions to keep all types of music lovers tapping their feet. This bluegrass powerhouse consists of Gary Dark on mandolin, Jason Hicks on guitar, Drew Garrett on bass, and Jeff Scroggins on banjo. Blending incredible brother-duet-style vocals and hard-driving instrumental proficiency, this energetic band is driving audiences to their feet and keeping them there. With two well-received recordings of originals and interpretations of traditional songs by the likes of Monroe, Stanley, and McReynolds the Blue Canyon Boys have become one of Colorado?s most celebrated Front Range bluegrass bands.

Hot Club of Santa Fe

The Hot Club of Santa Fe is an all-acoustic string band based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They play an eclectic repertoire that includes hot swing, gypsy jazz, and bluegrass. The Hot Club of Santa Fe has been wowing audiences in New Mexico with high energy performances, unique arrangements, and virtuoso musicianship since 2004. This band plays original compositions along with music ranging from 20th century jazz and swing standards to songs by composers such as Django Reinhardt, Bob Wills, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Sam Bush, and other composers-musicians. Band members have won several music awards including 2nd place in the Telluride Band Contest and 2-time winner of the Santa Fe Bluegrass and Old Time Music Festival mandolin contest. The band members have also shared the stage with many notable performers including David Grisman, Tony Rice, Mark O'Connor, Molly O'Brien, New Grass Revival, Ralph Stanley, Hot Rize, Country Gazette, Vassar Clements, Alison Krauss, Del McCoury Band, David Grier, Matt Flinner, Steven Bennett, Beppe Gambetta, and Carlo Aonzo.


Dirk Powell and Riley Baugus

Dirk Powell Dirk Powell combines deep-running roots in rural American tradition with an overarching artistic vision that speaks poignantly to the audiences of today. From learning banjo and fiddle at the feet of his grandfather in Kentucky, through founding the Louisiana Cajun group Balfa Toujours, to extensive recording and film work with such artists as Jack White, Joan Baez, T-Bone Burnett, Anthony Minghella, Loretta Lynn, and Spike Lee, Dirk has arrived at a place all his own - one where tradition, inspiration, and innovation meet without borders.

While Dirk has produced recordings for numerous artists around the country, he recently established his own studio in Louisiana, called the Cypress House. In the short history of the studio, Dirk has recorded and/or produced The Red Stick Ramblers, Ginny Hawker and Tracy Schwarz, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, The Wilders, Uncle Earl, April Verch, Richie Stearns, Polecat Creek, Tony Davoren, Corey Ledet, and Tit Sal?.

Riley Baugus Riley Baugus represents the best of old time American banjo and song. His powerful singing voice and his expert musicianship place him squarely in the next generation of the quality American roots tradition.

Riley has taught at camps and festivals around the world, including Augusta Heritage Festival and Augusta Old Time Week, Mars Hill College's Blue Ridge Old Time Music Week, Midwest Banjo Camp in Lansing, MI, the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, WA and Sore Fingers Week in the UK.

When not teaching or building banjos, Riley can be found out on the road performing. He plays with the Dirk Powell Band, with Kirk Sutphin and with K C Groves. He is a frequent guest of Polecat Creek and of Tim O'Brien with Dirk Powell. With Ira Bernstein, he presents the show "Appalachian Roots", a unique showcase of Appalachian music and dance.

W.B. Reid and Bonnie Zahnow

The husband and wife duo of W.B. Reid and Bonnie Zahnow present a wide range of musical traditions: old-time country songs and fiddle tunes, string blues music from Mississippi and Memphis, and Mexican songs and dance tunes. Both play fiddle and guitar, and WB also plays a variety of other stringed instruments. Sweet harmonies on songs ranging from poignient to humorous, twin-fiddling, foot-tapping tunes and slow waltzes, all make for fine and enjoyable music in any situation.

The Adobe Brothers

In one form or another, the Adobe Brothers have played together since 1979 when the group was started by Bruce Thomson and Tim De Young, who still perform with the band. Banjo player extraordinaire Wayne Shrubsall joined the group in the early 1980s to create the Adobe sound. The band features fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar and bass and plays an eclectic mix of acoustic music including old time string band, bluegrass, ethnic folk music, and western swing, a composite style they refer to as "international bluegrass." Their tunes include compositions by members of the band, classics by some of the best known acoustic musicians of this century and the last, and relatively new music played in the old time style. They have played for contra and square dances and performed concerts all over New Mexico and its neighboring states. The band has been featured in several regional concerts, and individual band members have won numerous awards for their compositions and instrumental ability.


2008 Bluegrass Band Contest Winners - Muddy River String Band

Muddy River String Band The Muddy River String Band draws the listener down a dusty lane echoing with acoustic memories of lonely mountain melodies. Rousing bluegrass tunes cause toes to tap of their own accord. Art Garcia leads the Muddy River String Band with his smooth vocals and driving mandolin picking. His original music journeys to a folksy, sepia-toned vision of bygone days. Diane Prior's liquid, bluesy voice adds power to the ensemble, while her hammered dulcimer fulfills a longing for simpler times. Ben Prior adds the unique sound of the 'cello with his rhythmic, pulsing accompaniment and unusual, improvised leads. Lynda Garcia on bass rounds out the band.

Muddy River String Band is an Albuquerque, New Mexico based band that plays an eclectic mix of Americana. From folk to blues, bluegrass to old-time, we play what we like. Our unusual instrumentation includes the hammered dulcimer and the 'cello. Our music is bright and energetic, with the occasional moody tune. We have lots of fun playing, and we want you to have a fun time too!
